Scott Shapíro is the owner of an online publication South Florida Insider. Over 18 years running the webzine, he has reported and photographed several high-profile events, worked with a number of not-for-profits, and interviewed a lot of celebrities. However, his media work is just one of three jobs he’s been active in.
Scott has also been an Athletic Director and Physical Education teacher for students from Pre-K to 12th grade and an Administrator at several summer camps. Prior to those jobs, he volunteered as a tutor at a local elementary school and helped out the after-school program at a Boys & Girls Club often as a middle school basketball coach.
While attending the University of South Florida for his undergrad, Scott started and ran a Roller Hockey team before leaving to get his bachelor’s degree from the University of Florida in Journalism & Communications. During college and a few years thereafter, he worked for local newspapers and two national magazines often covering sports and music before ultimately starting South Florida Insider.
When Scott was 16 he was in a near-fatal car accident and in turn had to be resuscitated. Never one to throw in the towel, Scott proved the skeptics wrong by graduating college though they claimed he wouldn’t be able to. It’s through his own perseverance that he became enamored with the mission of Special Compass. He loves seeing people push past their perceived limits.
